The primary reason I have decided to rate the movies I see are so that
I can get better recommendations for which movies I should see next. For
instance, there are many web sites where one can enter in ratings for
movies and receive either automated suggestions or get in touch with other
people with similar tastes. One reason I have posted the ratings on my
own site is so that I can have a primary listing of all my ratings. Also,
if you discover that you may have similar tastes to my own, you can come
here to see what kinds of things I recommend. I am also open to your recommendations
if you wish to send them to me.
I understand that ratings without an explanation or review are rather
thin. But it would take too much time for me to make comments on each
film that I see. Not only that, but it is difficult to give a view a concrete
numerical rating. These numbers are only an approximation of how I felt
about the movie at the time and may be influenced by countless factors,
some of which may never even occur to or affect other people watching
it. I am constantly rethinking my criteria for these ratings, and the
specific rating for any given movie is subject to change at any time.
10 - Near perfect. I would probably always be in the mood to watch this
movie.
9 - An excellent film, lacking only that extra special something that
would make it a 10.
8 - A very good film, and much recommended.
7 - Far from perfect, but still worth seeing.
6 - On the better side of average, but not necessarily worth my time.
You could also think of it like giving the movie a test with each number
representing 10 percent of the grade so if you gave the movie a grade
it would be like this:
10 - A - 90%-100%
9 - B - 80%-90%
8 - C - 70%-80%
7 - D - 60%-70%
6 - E - 50%-60%
5 and below - F
I guess what I'm saying is that giving ratings to movie is hard, and
although I think about it too much. You shouldn't give too much weight
to them. Just enjoy them for a few good recommendations or disparagements.
